Summary:
The boys are interviewed as part of their Australian tour. Here is part of the transcript. It's a bit random but I had to write it.

Zan – I’m talking to Dick, Tim and Damian from phenomenal US indy band the Robin. First of all, welcome to Australia. This is your first trip here isn’t it?

Dick – yeah we were really surprised when we got the invitation to play at the Good Vibes festival. I don’t think we realised we even had a following outside the States.

Zan - How are you finding it so far?

Dick – it’s had it’s ups and downs.

Zan - I heard you had a bit of a run in with a certain Oz stereo presenter?

Damian – the man was rude.

Dick – that wasn’t the best experience but most of the people we’ve met have been very cool and laid back. The Australian fans are amazingly giving and they seem to know all the words to our songs. The sing-alongs at the gigs have been amazing.

Zan - Your albums have had a far bit of airplay here. Untitled City-riff, the first single off your second album Never Alone especially has been really popular with the triple J listeners. Big of a break away from your first album...

Dick – yeah. We were pretty green when we did Keep Knockin. We’d only just started out as a band and I guess we recorded it as a bit of a joke really. All of it was done in a little flat in New York with a friend’s second hand recording gear and Tim’s laptop. When it hit the charts we nearly died of shock.

Zan - Keep Knockin certainly sounded like a really fun album to make and if your live shows are anything to go by, you guys really enjoy playing together and yet Never Alone seems to have a slightly darker sound to it.

Tim – I guess by the time we came to record Never Alone we’d settled down a bit and got the hang of recording.

Dick – also I think we’re more confident about our sound now. Never Alone felt like a good forum to start saying things with our music. All of us are from Gotham. I don’t know if it made the news here...

Zan - It did. What happened in Gotham was a tragedy. So soon after the Black Saturday Bushfires a lot of Australians can sympathise with your loss.

Dick – we felt like we wanted to tell the stories of Gotham, not just for us but for everyone who lost their friends and family, their homes and their lives.

Tim – a lot of the songs on Never Alone express that sense of displacement and loss but we wanted it also to be rallying cry of hope for all Gothamites.

Dick – It’s our way of keeping in touch with who we are and where we’re from.

Zan - The Robins are famous for their intense and extensive touring. How do you guys manage constantly being on the road?

Dick – *laughs* badly! We’re used to moving around but we had some problems during west coast leg of the Knockin tour.

Zan - I heard you guys had to take some time off for health reasons. Everyone ok?

Dick – Yeah, all good. I guess I especially wasn’t prepared for how hard the tour would be and I didn’t look after myself as well as I should have. But I’ve learnt from my mistake and with a little help from this lot it won’t happen. Unfortunately because of that, a lot of our fans missed out on seeing us. We’re hoping to make it up to them in the fall.

Zan - So are you taking it a bit easier on your Australian tour?

Dick - Absolutely. It’s such a beautiful place and the people are so friendly, we’re made sure we’ve got plenty of time to see the sights and enjoy a bit of down time.

Zan - So what do the Robins do to relax?

Dick – Jay and Steph have been doing a lot of shopping, especially when we’re in Melbourne. There was this place, like an indoor bazaar...

Zan - The Chapel St Bazaar?

Dick – You know it?

Zan - Oh yeah! I love that place. I could lose hours in there!

Dick - Well I lost a brother and sister in there for the better part of the day. I was on the verge of sending in a rescue party! Tim and D have been exploring mostly. I don’t think Timmy’s been parted from his camera since we got here.

Zan - I saw the photos on your blog. Truly stunning. You have an amazing eye Tim.

Dick – Aww! You’ve made him blush!

Tim – the Australian landscape is just so different from everything I’m use to and the light here is so clear. It’s a beautiful place and I’m not sure I’ve managed to do it justice.

Zan - Well I think you’ve done it more than justice. From Australian landscapes to Australian music, tell us why you’ve chosen this song to play for Like a Version
