Summary: the Robins decided that Damian needs a broader music education and put together a playlist. The meme is to make up that list.
“Dick?” Steph hissed, crossing the dressing room, her guitar held threateningly above her head. “Tell me there’s a good reason you’re playing with my iThing?”
Dick didn’t bother looking up as he thumbed though her playlists. “D needs an update on his musical education. I wanted to see what you had.”
Steph put her guitar down and flopped onto the couch with him, draped herself over the lead singer as she lifted the player from Dick’s hand. “If he needs modern pop music I’ve got plenty. I think he got the Lady Gaga thing after the show but...”
Dick reached for Tim’s laptop, resting a hand on Steph’s hip so he didn’t unseat her. “He needs older stuff too...Beatles, Beach Boys, some Dylan maybe.” He punched at the keys wildly, getting no reaction from the compact little computer.
“Break that and I’ll kill you.” Tim growled, putting down his bass. “What are you trying to do?”
“Educational playlist for Damian.” Steph muttered.
“Clearly he needs some Sex Pistols.” Jay called, following Tim in. He shed his jacket and started flicking though his CD collections. “Some Metallica wouldn’t hurt?”
***
Here the meme bit – what goes on the playlist? Who picked it and why? Why happened when they played it for him?
Help me out here guys! Damian needs our help.
My selections thus far–
Tim’s pick.
All Along the Watchtower, Jimi Hendrix. Incredible guitar work. Tim would sit there with his eyes closed, swaying along to the music.
Dick’s pick.
God Only Knows, Beach Boys. Just because. Dick would start joking around, singing it to all of the Robins and flirting but catching on Tim, really getting lost to the lyrics as he fell to his knees, really, really singing it to him – the passion and protectiveness.
If you should ever leave me,
‘though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin' do me
God only knows what I'd be without you
Jason’s pick.
Nothing Else Matters, Metallica.
Kashmir, Led Zeplin.
Jason wouldn’t explain either but go hardcore on the air-drums.
I have nothing for Steph but I’m sure you guys have better thoughts there than me.

I try to wash him out but like she said the blood is thicker

but only when i travel
I run as fast as i can run

Date: 2010-03-18 01:03 pm (UTC)So I was saying: Tim canonically listen to the Clash. Some REM in his pick (there's no playlist without REM) - their 'First we take Manhattan' cover, then Losing my religion. Genesis' Land of Confusion?
Dick would pick some old school Bowie - I'm Afraid of Americans, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), Ashes to Ashes.
Steph - I don't think she'd listen to japanese pop/rock music, so Gorillaz, The Cranberries (zombies), Lauren Hill (Killing me softly), and Mika. Some Marianne Faithful and the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction too maybe. Wu-tang Clan. Bat for Lashes - she'd share with Tim and Dick.
Jason: The Immigrant Song, and Alice Cooper, and AC DC, and Guns and Roses. The Doors (Riders of the Storm, The End, Alabama Song). Nine Inches Nails and A Perfect Circle cover of Imagine right after Dick made Damian listen to the original.
I'll stop now.

Date: 2010-03-18 09:05 pm (UTC)I didn't know that about Tim and the Clash. That’s so cool. (I now have visions of him singing London Calling with his head down and his hands in his pockets.) I agree – REM is a must.
With Dick and Bowie, I can see him having very much a Ziggy phase. There’s something a little too glam about that boy some days.
Steph rocking out to the opening song of Pulp Fiction. Oh yess! That works far too well. I can imagine Damian sitting on the floor attempting to ignore her while listening.
And I all of them I seem to share Jason’s taste most. Good solid old school rock.
Thank you so much! I really love your list. At some point I may go mad and see if I can compile these into a downloadable soundtrack.

Date: 2010-03-18 09:37 pm (UTC)Lol, Dick would want to sing on stage dressed as Ziggy XD
Good old school rock is the best. Oh, I totally forgot, Iron Man by Black Sabbath. :D On repeat.

Date: 2010-03-23 12:05 pm (UTC)Jay will probably hear Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine. AC/DC, Motorhead, you know. Old school rock'n'roll.
Tim is more of a brit pop/rock guy. The Clash, maybe The Smiths, James. He definitely has the latest album from Kings of Leon.
Damian...little D is new to the whole music thingy. Somehow I don't think Ra's first priority was to expend little D's music taste. So I think like more kids/teens his age he'll listen to Metallica, Guns'n'Roses, maybe some Linkin Park-but he also enjoys hip hop. But only a little. Dancing is not his thing, but Dick's.
But if Dick really wants to help Damian he has to ask Barbara. She's Oracle, she must download everything only to prove that she did it first.
I can imagine the dialogue:
Dick: Hey, Babs? Can I search your iPod?
Babs: *looks at him funny* I don't have an ipod, teen wonder.
Dick: You don't? *confused* Where do you keep your music then?
Babs: *opens a locker full with hard disk drives* What do you want?
Dick: O.o
Babs: I don't have all day, Dick.
Dick: Um...

Date: 2010-03-24 08:15 am (UTC)I adore Babs collection! Bet it's indexed and cross-catalogued too.
Thank you so much for joining in. Justine and I are trying to put together a playlist at the moment and I definitely be adding some of these.

Date: 2010-05-09 07:46 am (UTC)I somehow see Damian really liking, "The Saints are Coming," by The Skids:
"I cried to my daddy on the telephone
how long now
Until the clouds unroll and you come home
the line went
But the shadows still remain since your descent."
&"They'll Never Get Me," by Drop Dead, Gorgeous.
"Forgot my name
Forgot where I came from
I died getting here
Make me gold, I'm waiting.
Call me the Dark Angel.
Please don't scare.
Don't touch me.
Don't trust me.
Please keep your hands away from,
Away from,
Away from,
Away from me."
Steph jams out to Paramore. >___> She totally does.
Anything from their first two albums work for her in my head.
I have no clue about their third album, though.
And I see her at least having Hard-Fi's "Hard to Beat," on her iThing.
Tim would totally have, "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt," by We Are Scientists.
If only to dance around in the shortest shorts and tightest t-shirt imaginable to tease Dick. (And maybe Jay?)
"My body is your body. If you want to use my body, I won't tell anybody."
I like him liking Bright Eyes, or Monsters of Folk. Or Lissy Trullie. Or Brand New. Or Death Cab for Cutie. Or Lou Reed. Ohhh, Spill the Canvas is also fitting.
... I just plain like him liking indie/emo stuff. >___>
Jay's harder to place. :T
Cage the Elephant, if only for the attitude in "In one Ear," and "Ain't no Rest for the Wicked."
Killswitch Engage has some wicked drums when it gets started up. Otep, Norma Jean, Mindless Self Indulgence, Blood Brothers, and Bring Me the Horizon can be in there, too.
Dick's just a complete lyrical sap in my head, probably willing to talk in Beatles' song titles to Tim, "Hey Jude, do you want to know a secret? When I'm sixty-four, I want to hold your hand eight days a week."
"5 Years Time," by Noah & The Whale:
"Oh well I look at you and say
It’s the happiest that I’ve ever been
And I’ll say I no longer feel I have to be James Dean
And she’ll say
Yah well I feel all pretty happy too
And I’m always pretty happy when I’m just kicking back with you."
Cat Stevens, The Cure, Johnny Cash, Joy Division, The Kinks, Mott the Hoople, Oasis, Blur, The Pipettes, Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright, The Who, and The Zombies.
I stayed in '60-'93 range, and stayed really British.
(causeliterarystuffistheonlythingthebritysaregoodfor)
/inner Irishmen.
Woooow. I rambled a lot. :T
Remind me to not start talking about music, cause I can't stop it.
>___> Hoped this offered something, though.

Date: 2010-05-09 11:32 am (UTC)The lyrics from Drop Dead, Gorgeous lyric especially are very powerful for Damian. I could see him having a real panic moment of being trapped in the van with the others too long and snapping to scream those lines at his brothers.
Thanks again for joining in and coming out of lurking to share your fantastic ideas.

Date: 2010-07-12 07:24 am (UTC)Dick with Nickelback. The newer stuff.
Steph: Adam Lambert. Definitely. The Glambert just goes along with Lady Gaga.
