I’m trapped at home by a fierce heat wave and feeling listless. I need your help to get me writing so I’m calling out for prompts.

Of all the things Speed would never do –

Spend all night rebuilding cars with his brother, lightheaded with sleep deprivation as Mom lured them up from the garage with pancakes in the morning...

Race with Rex, their matching cars moving side by side though the curves and straights of the track, feeling the rush of competition in their veins...

Smuggle drinks together at the after-parties, sharing clandestine martinis on the shadowed balconies, laughing together, the sharp taste on their lips...

Be there for each other through triumphs and defeats, through the raises and falls, though hook ups and break ups, through all things life could throw at them...

Sit with Rex on the point of the look-out, talk to him about all the things he could never ask his parents about, about life, about love, about this...

Of all the things Speed would never do, the one that hurt the most right now was not being able to ask Rex what he thought of Racer X...or getting his brother’s blessing to kiss the man...
