Hey F-list.

I’m trapped at home by a fierce heat wave and feeling listless. I need your help to get me writing so I’m calling out for prompts.

Death by fluff

Rex leant on the Mach 5, scrubbing grease off his hands with a rag as he watched Speed race around the yard in his little car. Rex had built it from scratch for his baby brother, loving the way Speed clung around his neck, almost choking him with hugs that birthday.

The tiny engine roared as Speed gunned it up the little ramp, screaming and giggling out of the pretend jumps.

Never such innocence.

Years later, after the little car was blown up, after Rex died in the crash, after the grand prix cup joined the others on the shelf – Speed looked back of those days, flicking though the photographs and wondered if he was ever, truly, that young.

Never before or since.
