The end of AU week was great and its wonderful to see Bar returning to normal for Milliways.

Eden's raid happens and works out in unexpected ways.

Loki gets a note from Loki, all the various things going on with Loki are fun to watch.

Yusuke finds himself in the midst of a complex plot. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Yusuke's story.

Now what have you been reading.

This is going to be a very tiring week. You see, I knew I had an audit today. Internal, one where I was leading it. That was planned for. Tiring but productive so it's okay. I still have to write up the audit report and get the notes organized but hey, that's more or less done.

Tomorrow, there is a customer audit. This was known, planned for and loathed but known. I'm going to be Very Tired tomorrow so don't expect much of a post if I manage one at all.

Then, on Monday, we discovered that there was another customer audit this week, on Thursday. With a humongous scope that should, properly, take at least two days to cover. We've had, like, next to no time to prepare for it. There was hope that it'd be moved out a couple of weeks but nope, the auditor decided to come Thursday despite crisis on his side.

*loud desperate whining*

I am going to be completely and utterly flattened by the end of this week. One audit exhausts me. Two, back to back, is not just exhausting but devastating to my RSI. Taking that many notes is physically painful for weeks.

JFC, I'm going to be miserable.

But it's what has to happen so I'll survive it. Unhappily.

It's a good thing I'd already decided to ramp down my writing production as of this week. Because man, I'm going to be lucky to get even 500 words per day for the rest of the week.

I managed 1100 today, on the newest short story. It's squarely urban fantasy though, as always, I've no idea where I'm going with it. Doubt I'll finish it before the weekend. It feels like about 5-6K of story right now.

Goals for tomorrow are small: write 500 words, get this week's cover done (and ebook if possible), survive the audit. That's it.

Off to bath and early, early, EARLY bedtime for me. Goodnight everyone!

Your character has hit their physical limit. They have already collapsed or needed medical attention--whether from exhaustion, injury, whatever the cause.

Do they let themselves recuperate in a reasonable fashion? Do they push themselves too hard through that into a worse state? How do they recover from that low?

Welcome back to another week. I hope yours is a good one.

What is a simple pleasure your pup enjoys? I'm thinking thing like getting into bed when the sheets have been freshly changed, curling up with a blanket fresh from the dryer, or a hot towel to wipe your face with. That sort of thing.

And what about you?

Finished the novella!

I was planning on doing New Years and Valentines but the Christmas section was such a feel-good spot that I stopped there. It ended up being 10,400 words which felt just right for that story.

Still need a beta for it.

Today the hubby and went down to Seattle to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibit. It was really quite cool, if very crowded with people moving far too slowly as they listened to the audio narration gizmos they'd gotten. Took about an hour for us to move through it and I'm pondering buying a history book about the time period because it was quite fascinating.

The warriors really are amazing ceramic works. Seriously, just so much detail put into them. I had no idea that originally they'd been fired, lacquered and then painted in full color. Apparently, the paints all dissolved (corroded? evaporated? not sure the right word) within 15 minutes of exposure to the air. So it doesn't show now except in rare tiny spots. Still amazing.

Then we had lunch (Mod Pizza) and went to Pike's Place for spatezl (had to get a different sort from what we normally buy) and then had ice cream at our favorite ice cream shop. Plus, we saw that they had peach cobbler cupcakes so we got two of those for dessert tonight.

Came home and writing time happened, as above.

Let me just say that I'm really glad we got exercises today because between the big steaks we had for dinner (I only ate half) and those cupcakes, dude. So many calories. But the cupcakes were AMAZING! Rich and tender and damn if that frosting didn't taste just like really good peach cobbler.

Then I spent some time going over my publishing schedule for the rest of the year and decided that I needed to put together a whole slew of collections. There will be six collections of various sorts coming out before the end of the year. Between that and the stories I have in the pipeline already, I only have two weeks left to fill.

So I will be writing two more short stories and then focusing as hard as I can on learning about advertising, marketing and getting every single one of my older stories up to the current standards.

Kind of hurts but I need to get this done. Need to. Desperately. So my word count goals for the last quarter of the year is going to go down to 250 words per day instead of 2000. That will leave me time for everything else that needs to be done.

I mean, I'm still going to write more than that. Just not as much. Because other things have to take priority.

Weird as that is. *sigh*

So, yeah, goals for tomorrow include getting this week's story ready for publishing, 250 words of a new short story, getting all my ISBN numbers updated (because wow, I am VERY behind on that), prepping for an internal audit on Tuesday, prepping for a customer audit on Wednesday, and that's about it that I can think of right now. Oh! Yeah, I also need to start building a marketing and promotion calender and budget. You now, a business plan. @__@

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Similar to the logic puzzle, it's been a few years since we've had a post on how to search through community tags with html. Here's a refresher course, with some additional information given that I've learned some new tricks.

Searching through tags, how to get around that weird error, and searching by journal name for people without tags )

So, it's been a few years since we had one of these, so why not? Solve the puzzle by finding out which drinks, rooms, room numbers, and pets belong to whom, and what the pets are named.

Bonus question: Name the plant.

1. There are five "rooms" in a row, listed left to right (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
2. Jay spends his time in the garage.
3. Emcee drinks gin.
4. The person who lives in the sauna has a pet named Annabelle.
5. Bonnie's pet is called John, after her sons.
6. The sauna is just to the left of the corner of the bar.
7. The person who owns a dog drinks coffee.
8. An unnamed plant lives at the practice range.
9. The person in the middle room has an animal named George.
10. Chirrut likes room number 1.
11. The cockatiel lives next door to the person who drinks green tea.
12. The person who owns the plant lives next door to the person who drinks water.
13. Hans the glittery rock "lives" next door to the sauna.
14. Oswin owns a cat.
15. Chirrut's room is next door to the lake.
16. Jay owns George.
17. Annabelle's owner drinks chai tea.
18. Emcee sings in the corner of the bar.

Here is a nifty link that will draw a graph for you. I'll post the solution here on Wednesday.

We have a roof

The roofers finished putting our new roof on today. They hauled ass in amazing ways, not just with putting it on but also with cleaning up after they were done. It looks really good and now we don't have to worry about the grit coming off or the roof leaking.

Of course, because they were here there was no going out or doing anything. Thus I got a lot of writing done on the new novella. I have about 4-5K left to write on it and then I'll need someone to beta it for me. Preferably someone with some familiarity with mental illnesses. Because every single character in the story is mentally ill in one way or another. And/or physically disabled, too. And they're all queer.

Thus I am nervous that I'm going to write something harmful and/or ignorant. *sigh* Still writing, though, because this is the story that's in my head at the moment.

Seriously, I just wanted my asexual/aromantic lesbian story. Sabah's asexual. Caron's aromantic. They're never, ever going to have sex but they are finding their way to making a good life together with their friends.

Anyway. Anyone who's interested in betaing please do contact me. Or if you know of people who beta, point me in their direction, please.

Once the roofers left the hubby smoked up a rack of ribs. They turned out REALLY tender and good. We also had corn from his garden patch. It was a little young but the stalks were bent and broken by the roofers so hey, it was time to harvest them. Very sweet though. I was happy. Though now I have corn bits stuck in my teeth. Need to floss something awful.

Tomorrow the hubby and I are going down to Seattle to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the Pacific Science Center. We had no idea it was there until we saw a commercial for it last night. Then we decided that hey, it's going to be gone on Sept 4th. We better get our butts down there to see it.

Should be very interesting.

So, goals for tomorrow include the Science Center, wandering around Downtown for a bit, doing laundry, writing the end of this story and that's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me. Goodnight everyone!

So, I wanted to get AU Week out of the way before I announced this, but I might as well do it now.

Me and Zed were talking a couple of weeks back about the fact that there was no way to get digital only content, like Orange Is The New Black and The Tick, in Milliways. I talked to our very awesome mods, and our ideas have been accepted and approved.

This means that Milliways now has a repository for web originals located in the library next to the DVDs and Blu-rays, and your pup can now get a terminal to access the new computer network. The network is designed to allow sharing of content, inter-Bar emails and stuff like that. Still no true internet, though.

Hope you guys enjoy, and thanks to Zed for the repository idea, as well as the invaluable advice.

Happy RPing!

Wow, people, that was amazing! Who'd have thought there could be a succulent AU! And all the other amazing ideas people were posting and threading out.

Thanks ever so much for participating, and thanks to Munnin, my partner in crime, for doing most if the organising work this year, as I am laid up in hospital and relegated to using my Kindle Fire tablet in between medical stuff happening. Still, it's amazing it was possible at all; we all live in the future now!

I suppose we can keep playing for the rest of the weekend, finishing off ideas and threads, but perhaps no new AU EPs once it's officially Monday? Then normalcy can return. As soon as we've established what's normal, anyway.

Let's do this again next year.

At the tail end of AU week, I'm stealing an idea fractalmuses shared with me on Discord.

If your pup were to be in a Star Wars AU, what would their role be? Or what if it were a Star Trek AU instead? Would they be in Starfleet? If so, what branch: command, operations, or sciences?

*sigh* It's looking to be about 12K to 15K, so a novella. Not a short story. Oh well, it needs the length. It's a asexual/lesbian romance where both of the girls are mentally ill and doing their best to live their lives. Told in a series of parties held at their friend Tiyamike's house. So it opens with the housewarming, then there's Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's. I've got the housewarming and Labor day chapters done. Though I might expand the Labor Day one a bit.

Fun so far and hopefully I won't mess them up.

Got my steps today due to the hubby deciding we needed to take a walk after work. I did something a couple of days ago to my left Achilles tendon. No idea what but when I take too long of strides it hurts. Not sharp pain, just ow, ow, ow. Odd. Not sure if I should stay off it or do lots of stretching. Though honestly I could do with massive amounts of stretching on a regular basis.

This week's story is up and ready everywhere other than CreateSpace. It's called Stripped Lords of the Way and is in the Gods Above and Below verse, focused on Cyrille and his horse. Because fantasy stories really don't ever pay enough attention to the horses. I'm no horse person and even I know that they have way more personality than stories, mine included, give them.

Tomorrow the contractors arrive to start replacing the shingles on our roof. We're not sure how long it'll take. I'm hoping that it'll take 1-2 days at most but they have our house and our detached garage to take care of so who knows. Either way, it'll be good to have it done. Right now the bin is blocking our garage so we can't even park in there. Oh well, it's for a good cause. Leaks are bad.

Goals for tomorrow include work (lots of it), writing, exercises, getting groceries and being quite astonished by the change in the house when I get home and see what they've gotten done (however much that is).

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Red Lords and the Darkest Hunter

The steppes were cold, stunningly cold, not that Xun felt it. The blood of Dorji Kita shielded her from the worst of it.

Unfortunately, it also prevented her from seeing and hearing the dark threat lurking under the steppes, waiting to flood out and consume all of the Red Hunters.

The Red Hunters asked Xun for help.

But how could one woman face down something this powerful and not be drowned?

Waves of the Falling Moon

The eclipse was coming.

Xun roamed her mother's place halls, unable to sleep. Restless energy filled her; Dorji Kita's energy.

She would have called it boredom with being home if it weren't for visiting deities, prophecies of destruction…

…and Xun losing her humanity inch by inch.

Change was coming for Xun and this time she wasn't sure that it could be fought.

Sweat dripped down Garnett's ribs to pool at the beltline. Coming home, back to his house and his friends and his former lover Kali, wasn't something he'd planned on doing.

But when home called, Garnett came.

Whew! A ton of stories in the Gods Above and Below verse have come out in the last couple of months. Mostly because it's a fun series to write in. This week's story is in the same world but it's not approved as a POD yet so I can't link to it yet. *said sigh*

Next week, though, you get something completely different, finally. It's a lesbian romance set here and now with no supernatural anything at all. Just girls supporting each other and falling in love, while vacationing on a private island in the Puget Sound. :D

Hope that you enjoy the stories, these and those coming out, if you choose to read them!

What are some of your character’s cheesiest--for lack of a better word--canon lines? Cheesy can be a lot of things, good and bad--bombastic, corny, clunky, earnest, facile, overwritten, overacted, over-the-top in one way or another… Does it make you cringe every time, or do you kind of love it?

(NB: I’m asking as someone whose character actually says “There is no stopping it! There is only…...THE WAR.”)

I have all the links for the long-overdue Now Available post but nothing else. Ugh. It will go up tomorrow, damn it.

On the other hand, I managed to get the cover, POD and Ebooks done for this week's story this evening, plus I started a new short story and got 650 words on it. Not bad for not starting until 7:30 pm.

Of course now I'm wiped. I'd wanted to take a bath and get some reading done but nope. Going shower and flop in bed instead.

Work has just ordered me a new Microsoft Surface. I'll be starting a new project soon and need it far more than I need a desk computer. Nice. I've wanted one to play with and the hubby wouldn't let me get one. Better still, I'll be able to long in remotely on it, which is a first for me. I've never been allowed remote access before.

Now if they'd just give me a damn pay raise, too. *sigh*

Casserole turned out really good. I've got 3 extra lunches so that makes me happy.

Goals for tomorrow include finishing the new short story (house party with all the girls!), get this week's story uploaded everywhere, get the damn Now Available post up finally, exercises and pasta for dinner. Also potentially sending Fossil History (my recent unicorn story) out to another publisher.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!
